The Black Man: The Problem, The Problem, and half the answer

...so, we watched another Tyler Perry movie. Madea goes to jail. The movie itself was... just that, another Tyler Perry film. It was funny, it was what it was.

...but there's the systematic conditioning that perpetuates throughout this film that get's me where it hurts. That's that men, black men, are the problem to all female emotional and long term issues and also the solution to every woman, black woman, in peril. That disturbs me...

I get the point that family units are important to everyone, especially children. But to hang the problems and partial solution to every woman's, black woman's, problem on a good black man... That's a bit far.

It seems that in most modern blackploitation flicks that men, black men, are portrayed as the issue, the problem, and the partial solution. Women, black women, blame men, black men, for all of their problems. Then there's not the blame but the reality that men, black men, has done something to cause women, black women, to fall into this physical, mental, emotional abyss which the woman, black woman, must attempt to climb out on her own accord. There are other women, black women, there to assist with the accent but only a man, black man, can really pull her out of her hole in which the man, black man, pushed her into in the first place.

So where does this leave us? Are men, black men, the only partial solution left for women, black women? Don't think so...

Men, black men, are their own solution to their own demise. And as their own solution will begin to assist the healing for not only women, black women, but society as a whole. Men, black men, aren't women's, black women's, solution. They (men) can't be. But they (men, black men) are the holders to how they view themselves, society views them, and the emotional uplifting of their companions (women, any women).

One thing is consistent that Tyler hits on, and that ultimately men are the beginning of a lot of the world's ills (and evil azz b!tch azz women). However, it takes people (men and women), good people to be that vaccination to the virus that is slowly overtaking society.

But I have to get Tyler credit, he has a way of making people want more. What people want is a movie of Madea that has not motive or problem to solve, but that may be stuck in a mire of social stereotypes that would be doomed for racial failure.

Okay enough of this seriousness, Folk were the fvck did you go?!? ...and no, this isn't a movie review either.

Post up on how you feel about the portrayal of men being the problem, the problem, and the partial solution to all thing wrong in black women's life?

I'm with you on this one. I think men, ALL men, have this bad rap in most any movie. It doesn't matter what's going on with a woman, the problem stemmed from a man. Even if she broke her heel on something, they'll make that "I bet a man made this shoe" comment and her two girlfriends will laugh in sympatico with her.

What if we as men, ALL men, did that? What if we blamed women in general when OUR underwear were scratchy or OUR shoes didn't fit right but for some reason we wore both to impress women anyways. What if we blamed women in general for the car we drive not having a fixture on the steering wheel to do OUR nails on while driving at 75 MPH and talk on the phone while putting on make-up. Huh? What then?

I'm sorry. I lost the point. What was it again? Oh yeah..... what if the tables were turned? All of the sudden unfair, right?

OK, first of all Folk, I have to say that this was THE ABSOLUTE WORST MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE BLACK WOMAN LIFE. EVER. ABSOLUTELY. THE. WORST.

Now that I got that out, I think it's bullsh!t that this is how black men & women are portrayed. But unfortunately, it's not just the fictional portrayal, it's the very real way that many black women (I can't speak for the men) are brought up learning about black relationships. You characterized it to well: black men are viewed as the problem and half the solution. And that's bullsh!t. Sh!t talk 'em one minute, then holler about how the good lawd's gon' bring you a husband the next. Ugh.

I still fail to see how this is exclusively a black thing.

It happens equally in the white world as well, I assure you.

While we're on the subject.... when is Tyler Perry going to get some new material? I'm sorry. Yes, he brilliant, but c'mon now.

I can slam on Tyler Perry all day long but that's been done. It's become like a piece of burnt toast. We've scape off the burnt surface and eat the rest. But it's a damn shame the highest paid female is actually a swinging D**k.

To be fair, I have to look at the issue of the black males role in the plight of the black woman with a discerning eye. This is a mans world and we are failing to take the lead. The numbers of black men that leave the family unit dwarfs that of women. Right there we have a major problem. Sure, it takes two to tango but again, that does not void the fact that men leave more often than men.

On another note, men cry just as much as women but they cry in the dark or undercover. Listen to the lyrics of many rap songs. Black men cry dry tears.

We may not be the root of all their problems but odds are we are somewhere in the mix.

A man is not the source of my problems nor my solution (as far as I know. Truth be told, I have endured far more bullshit from the females in my life then the males. And it hurts worse.

And as much as I appreciate the good Mr. Perry does in the hood....I must co-sign with "ThaL"..that movie was boo boo. Rudy was a better actress when she was younger.

And I did wash my hands after watching.
